DevOps Specialist

IIASA Information and communication technologies (ICT)  DEPARTMENT

As an international research institute conducting policy-oriented research into issues that are too large or complex to be solved by a single country or academic discipline, the Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) Department at IIASA provides the significant computing, data storage and software resources needed by these scientific endeavors and additionally supports the normal day-to-day operations of a 400+ person institute.

We are looking for a DevOps Specialist who will be responsible for developing and maintaining the institute’s internal Management Information System (MIS) as well as containerized platforms and applications that support scientific computing and other web services.

MAIN DUTIES AND AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

  • Develop, and maintain the institute’s web-application based business process management system (MIS) and referring applications (Oracle DB and PL/SQL based).
  • Develop and provide user IT related trainings to staff members.
  • Configure, deploy, administer, and maintain web-based software and systems applications.
  • Support integration of applications on the IIASA private and public cloud infrastructure.
  • Refactor, rebuild, or replace legacy software applications and utility programs.
  • Write accurate and detailed user and system documentation for developed or implemented software applications.
  • In line with the team spirit that prevails at IIASA, the incumbent may occasionally work on other tasks assigned by their superiors, that might not be directly related to this appointment but where the post holder has relevant experience and skills, and/or a shortage of immediate personnel capabilities requires such.

our Requirements

  • Academic qualification in Computer Science, Informatics, or a related field together with experience in:
    • High level programming languages (eg. Python, C++, etc.),
    • Oracle RDBMS,
    • Web development (JavaScript, PHP, HTML, CSS, Ajax),
    • Software code testing and deployment
  • Experience with Docker and Kubernetes a plus.
  • Experience with cloud technologies and services (Azure or AWS) a plus.
  • Extensive knowledge of SQL programming (knowledge of PL/SQL is an advantage).
  • Familiarity with Linux.
  • Familiarity with source code management (Git).
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills combined with strong problem solving skills.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; must be fluent in English; German language skills advantageous.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well in close cooperation within a team, and maintain professional and productive relationships with colleagues from diverse nationalities and backgrounds.
  • Flexible working attitude and willingness to take on other tasks to benefit the department/institute.
 

appointment terms

Candidates should be available to take up the position as soon as possible (start date negotiable). We offer an initial fixed-term, full-time employment contract for one year, with the intention to extend to an open ended contract thereafter.

Eligible applicants wishing to work part-time hours may be considered.

Duties will be carried out at the IIASA premises in Laxenburg, Austria.

This position is classified as a ''Professional" level post

we offer

minimum gross full-time (40 hours per week) annual salary of EUR 49,694.00 which is exempt from income tax in Austria.

The advertised salary is:

  • Negotiable, based on the qualifications, skills and experience of the selected individual.
  • Subject to deductions for health insurance and/or social security.
  • Not directly comparable with other employers in Austria, due to the unique legal status and privileges granted to IIASA.
  • Subject to the principle of income aggregation (Progressionsvorbehalt in German).
